The UCC Skills Centre is a new and exciting student support development for UCC students. The Centre enhances the student experience through the provision of targeted tutorials or sessions. These sessions will help develop essential study skills. The Skills Centre offers a free and friendly place for all students (undergraduate and postgraduate) to come and address any aspect of their study. The Skills Centre is a relaxed, friendly and non-judgmental space and is available to all students.
Peer tutors and Staff members will facilitate group sessions, one to one appointments and drop in sessions. Core learning will be strengthened through the delivery of study strategies, providing the scaffolding to allow students to think independently.
A wide and varied programme will run throughout the academic year. Many of the sessions aim to develop a student’s writing skills and will help prepare students for assignment writing.
Sample sessions include:
- Note Taking: how to record and organise all the information required for study at third level.
- Unpacking the Question: how to approach an assignment
- Proof Reading and Editing: the how to guide.
- Critical Thinking Workshops: exploring and developing your critical thinking skills.
- Presentation Skills: how to deliver Powerful Presentations.
So if you are Nervous about Note taking, Worried about Word, Anxious about Academic Writing, or if you have any other queries regarding your studies, you will be able to find help here.
